The Pap smear is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer. It takes a few minutes and can detect changes in cervical cells early.
At what age is it recommended?
Screening generally starts around the age of 25 and is repeated periodically, at the interval recommended by your doctor based on results and HPV testing.
How to prepare
- schedule the test outside your period;
- avoid intercourse, vaginal suppositories and douching for 48 hours before;
- write down the questions you want to ask during the visit.
Remember
An abnormal result does not mean cancer – it simply means further tests are needed. Prevention and regular check-ups make the difference.
